Accountability Update

The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) recently shared school and district accountability data from the 2017-2018 school year. The table below provides an overview of CISD’s overall performance followed by a description for each school.

William H. Natcher Elementary School


For the proficiency indicator, KDE looks at 3rdthrough 5thgrade students’ scores in math and reading on the annual K-PREP assessment administered in May. An overall score of 60.5 is considered proficient. WNES scored 69.7, exceeding the state threshold.


The separate academic indicator utilizes K-PREP scores in science (4thgrade), social studies (5thgrade), and writing (5thgrade). An overall score of 52.6 is considered proficient in this category. WNES exceeded this benchmark as well with a score of 66.6.


KDE established a formula for calculating the growth indicator, which tracks each student’s movement toward proficiency on the K-PREP math and reading assessments. An overall growth score of 15.2 is considered proficient. Again, WNES surpassed this target with a score of 17.7.


Frederick Fraize Middle School


At the middle school level, 6ththrough 7thgrade students’ math and reading K-PREP scores are used to generate a proficiency indicator. The benchmark for proficiency is a score of 62. FFMS exceeded this with a score of 64.3.


Science (7thgrade), social studies (8thgrade), and writing (8thgrade) K-PREP scores are used to generate the separate academic indicator in middle school. An overall score of 55 indicates proficiency in this area. With a score of 58.4, FFMS surpassed this threshold.


To measure growth, KDE looks at 6ththrough 8thgrade math and reading scores from the K-PREP assessment. An overall score of 9.5 or more is considered proficient. Again, FFMS exceeded this with a score of 10.1.


Frederick Fraize High School


At the high school level, the proficiency indicator is generated using 11thgrade students’ scores on the reading and math portions of the state administered ACT. An overall score of 40 or more indicates proficiency in this area. FFHS surpassed this benchmark with a score of 49.3.


Currently, there are no separate academic or growth indicators for high school.


The transition readiness indicator measures the number of students who received a diploma and demonstrated academic or career readiness by reaching benchmark on a variety of state approved assessments, program completions, apprenticeships, etc. An overall score of at least 41 is considered proficient. FFHS far exceeded that goal with a score of 64.4.


Finally, the graduation rate indicates the percentage of students who graduated with a high school diploma in four or five years. A score of 85 or better is considered proficient. Again, FFHS beat that goal with a score of 94.7.


Cloverport Independent School District


We are extremely proud that all of our schools exceeded all proficiency goals. Our staff and students work very hard each day to achieve at the highest levels. The data described above is proof that this work is paying off. We realize, however, that we cannot rest on our laurels. Education is an ever-changing field and we must continue to push our students to perform at the highest levels, not because the state requires it, but because our children deserve it and the future of the Cloverport community that we serve depends on it.
