CIS Family,
We at Cloverport Independent School have suffered a terrible loss, and we are sad to inform you that one of our students, Kolton Worden in the 5th grade has died as a result of injuries suffered in an accident yesterday afternoon.
We have spoken with the students’ family and have passed along the love and support from all the staff and students in our school district. Kolton’s mother Shanda is our lead custodian, and his brothers Kaleb, Korbin, and Karter are CIS students as well. Funeral arrangements are pending and will be released soon.
Anytime a student experiences a death, it will naturally cause anxiety and confusion. Our school counselors as well as counselors from the Green River Regional Educational Cooperative have been and will continue to be available to students and staff throughout this crisis as needed.
There are some things you can do at home to support your child:
Please encourage your child to discuss their feelings and ask questions. This may be difficult because you won’t have all the answers. Answer honestly, even if it’s “I don’t know.” It is helpful for your child to just be able to talk.
Your child may wish to record their feelings in a journal or write a letter to their friend.
Some children cope by listening to music, reading, or exercising.
Your child may also wish to speak to one of the counselors here at school.
If you have additional questions or concerns, you may contact CIS Principal Teresa Smith at (270) 788-3388. Please keep this family in your thoughts and prayers.
Respectfully,
Keith Haynes
CISD Superintendent
